The breast mastopexy or breast lift plastic surgery is an operation that is technically very similar to the breast reduction surgery.
There is a repositioning of the nipple and the areolar above the breast crease (inframammary fold), and reshaping of the breast without the large removal of the breast tissue. It is often referred to as the changing of the skin envelope, without the significant change in contents of the envelope.
The result is a nicer aesthetic, firmer and younger-looking breast.
The typical breast lift patient has sagging breasts, with the nipple below the breast crease. The operation repositions this nipple in its proper anatomical position.
Most patients for mastopexy are in their thirties and forties. This operation is one way of reversing after pregnancy and childbirth changes that are common in the breast.
Breast lift plastic surgery may be performed as an out-patient procedure in the hospital or with a short stay. Dr. Cerqueiro operates at associate hospitals in Madrid and A Coruña.
The procedure usually takes about two to two and a half hours. Then the patient returns home after one or two hours in the recovery area. After the total recover from the anaesthesia and the comprobation of her favorable evolution of the situation, the patient may be released the same day or the next.Is recommended the company of a close person when leaving the clinic. Patients are encouraged to stay in town overnight.
Sutures used are resorbable and do not need to be removed.
Breast lift plastic surgery may be performed either under intravenous anaesthesia or general anaesthesia. All of our anesthesiologists are board certified and highly experienced physicians.
After breast lift surgery, it takes approximately one week to ten days to feel comfortable. A sports type bra (no underwire) is worn after surgery. You should refrain from athletics for three weeks after surgery.
Most of the potential complications are related to cigarette smoke. If you are a smoker, you should stop for at least one month prior to surgery. Nicotine patches are not a substitute, and do not significantly diminish the risk of complication.
Complications following breast mastopexy are rare. However, scars may be minimal or noticeable, but certainly present. Dr. cerqueiro uses a technique (the same as the one used for breast reduction) that limits the scars lenght to the essential, and avoids to apply tension on the wound, so that scar streching is minimal. Nipple sensation may also be diminished, and there may be healing problems. Dr. Cerqueiro will discuss all potential complications concerning this operation with you depending on your particular case.
