Lips can be made larger and fuller by the use of natural or synthetic filling substances that can be reabsorbable or permanent. Fat grafting is an option of augmentation using your own fat, other tissues used are dermis.

Lip augmentation is usually performed under local anaesthesia. Either the upper or lower or both lips can be temporarily or permanently enhanced.
Augmentation materials are available in liquid form for injection or solid form for surgical placement. If a soft-solid material is chosen, small hidden incisions will be made at the corners of your mouth.

There is initial swelling and bruising of variable degree depending of the procedure used. For reabsorbable fillers this swelling generally has settled by the third day after the procedure and bruising is usually minimal. The swelling after permanent augmentation tends to last longer before it completely settles.

Cold sores, allergy, infection and bleeding can occur after lip augmentation. For reabsorbable materials these comiplications lasts for about 2 weeks. Long term inflammation and allergy are not an issue when is used patient’s own tissue.
Inject filling substancies of permantent synthetyc type must be used with care because the limited predictability of its evolution in long term.All over the world, more than three hundred filling substancies are used, Dr. Cerqueiro uses the substances that offer the best tolerance and have shown the least of long term problems in follow up series.
